'Where all the software is FREE' - What is that all about then?
There are two ways to get software for free.
1 - Download it illegally, this is stealing and will
generally involve putting software to
crack the programs built in
security. This is normally written by hackers, the sort of people who also like
to install trojans and worms to snoop inside your computer. These can easily be
hidden in a program that you are giving your permission to install on your
personal computer. This also often affects the programs stability, who are you
going to go to for support then. Also sooner of later you might get caught and
go to jail.
2- Freeware, Shareware or TrialWare. This is what
FreeHomeSoftware.co.uk is all about.
Freeware
is
software
written by either up and coming Software Developers
like myself, or used by
Major Software
companies as teasers for more fully
functioned products, after all if you like one piece of software, you are more
likely to go back for more aren't you. All this software is 100% LEGAL!
Shareware
is generally software that you can try for a period for
FREE, and then you have the option to pay a (usually) small sum to unlock it for
a longer period, or indefinitely.
Trialware
- Most manufacturer will let you 'try before you buy',
so if you do not fancy lashing out hundreds of pound, euros or dollars you can
plan ahead and use their software for 14 days, a month or so without it costing
a penny, of course at the end of the trial period it will be rendered useless
but hey it's a bargain while you have it. I have finished many a project this
way.
Trial Pay -
Pretty recent idea this, you download Trialware, then you
buy something else that you might have bought anyway and then in return you get
an unlock code to make the software into a full version, AVG do this. It's
basically a good idea!
Is
Freeware
as good as the Big Name Products?
Some
free software
is now as good as the Big Names Software, just look
at '
the Gimp' (Graphics) has most of Adobe PhotoShop's features, '
Open
Office 3' (Business and Office), just as good as Microsoft for most users,
AVG Anti Virus 8.5
- (Anti Virus) just as good as Norton or Mc Afee and
doesn't slow your system down.
So
Freeware
is generally stable, and well supported too usually by
joining a free forum where you can read other users issues and the replies from
the programmers. You can also post your own questions. Anyone who has used
Linux
Software
will tell you that this is a great way of keeping costs down for
both users and manufacturers, and getting new releases and patches live very
quickly.
Most big name software is extremely complicated to use and packed with
rich features to compete against their competitors, but most home users never
use a lot of that functionality and it all slows your computer down hence the
term bloatware, every new issue is bigger and better? than its predecessor.
You can probably run a 5 year old PC with its original memory on
Windows XP
and
100% Freeware, how much of a bargain is that?
If you could just have the basics and have a program easier to use,
wouldn't you use it more often and recommend it to your friends especially is if
was FREE forever!
K.I.S.S - Keep It Simple Stupid, simple is easier to use and more
productive.
